BOY EATS GIRL (REVIEW)

Dir. Stephen Bradley

Reviewer. Dan Cook

Despite a few scenes of squishy undead carnage, this forgettable Irish horror comedy lacks the killer bite of the far more popular SHAUN OF THE DEAD released in the same year.

When a boy declares his love for his girlfriend, only to die the same night. He is brought back to life by his mother as a flesh-craving zombie, who sires more teen undead while trying to control his appetite for his beloved. Unfortunately, there are so many takes on this story that have been done better, BURYING THE EX and NINA FOREVER are real standouts in the zombie love tales.

Starring mostly unknowns apart from popstar Samantha Mumba and a blink-and-you’ll-miss-him appearance from Domnhall Gleeson, BOY EATS GIRL certainly delivers the gore but not really much else. The characters are universally unlikable and annoying, the raunchy script is riddled with more holes than its flesh-munching horde and the finale is particularly underwhelming.
