First of all, do you understand how interesting it is to research a film called PORNO? Keywords into google for the result of "porno", "porno film", "porno 2019" and "porno shudder" all came back with not the desired results and added a very interesting addition to my search engine.
Set in a dirty cinema, PORNO revolves around a possessed movie that is played by the staff during a lock-in. Unbeknownst to the stewards, the movie of choice beholds a succubus that has a rather elaborate way of gaining the souls of those who watch it.
Laced with humour and graphic shots, it never takes itself too seriously and knows it's target audience. Like many of the explicit slashers of the Shameless collection, this could easily fit in alongside BABA YAGA and DELLAMORTE DELLAMORE by being both bloodthirsty and firmly below the belt. While the deaths are gory, the film never takes itself too seriously and as a result, it never arouses enough suspense to make this a genuine horror film and as such is purely just popcorn fodder.
No bad thing for a film called PORNO and it's fun is kept firmly between it's legs. With an overload of breasts, the most messed up scene of genital mutilation on cinema and a band of youths at each others thoughts, PORNO is everything a Saturday night b-movie should be. For the Mary Whitehouses amongst us, the title should be enough of a deterrent to really allow those who want to enjoy horror in the vein that video nasties were made for then PORNO is a gift.
A shame that the low budget becomes over ambitious with much of the CGI taking away from the great prosthetics and blood splattered carnage that unfolds. The intercutting of different video effects looks very high school despite it's efforts to be reminiscent of old school underground nasties. Sometimes laughing at the film and not with it however, it's carried well enough by the young cast that it can be forgiven, at it's worst it's a low budget young boys dream, at it's best, hopefully PORNO will become a cult classic for late night cinema goers looking for a bit of fun while perusing the top shelves of their local newsagents.
